Why are conservatives so opposed to an national amnesty plan?

The strategy of the current GOP leadership is to oppose everything posited by the Liberal party - even when the programs initiated were borne from Republican ideas. The Republicans are fighting for relevance, and they cannot do this by risking the loss of whatever ground upon which they still have to stand by cooperating and contributing to any Democratic success. Contrary to the strident cheerleading from the Fox Network, Rush Limbaugh, Michael Steele and Glenn Beck - conservatives have literally tethered themselves to a Global Corporate Monolith that believes constant, continuous advertising/ranting alone will sway public opinion in their favor - there has been a growing population of Americans that will not be fooled, especially in the disastrous wake of the Cheney/Bush Era. Consequently, there is no legitimate dialog about the issues facing Americans. It all boils down to survival of the Party.
