Patriotic flag room for a child - disrespectful or not?

My 2 yr old is so into the USA flag. Loves the flag as much as Elmo. Since I sew & knit/crochet, I want to make a room in our house a patriotic flag-themed room. Since a lot of people visit our house (and some of them are military type), at what point does using images of the American flag become disrespectful? For example, I love the flag afghan you can make in this book - a href="http://www.craftdesigns4you.com/shopimages/large/lgbkcroredwhiteblueafghans.jpg" rel="nofollow"http://www.craftdesigns4you.com/shopimag…/a But is using the American Flag image as an afghan, curtain material, pillows, etc. (some of which will end up sat on, jumped on, and curled up on the floor) considered disrespectful?
