Is this even possible?

Okay so recently this morning my dad comes home with his boss and his work truck. My dad is an AC mechanic and a hard working man, working 8-9 hours a day. So all of a sudden after I come home from walking my dog, he asks me to help him start unloading the truck full of my dads supplies, while his boss is just standing there watching. So after about 20 min. we get most of the stuff out and I noticed that there's still a whole bunch of my dads supplies and tools still in the truck and he begins locking it up. So he gives the key to his boss and he drives away. Thats when he tells me "oh i just got fired" . Then I started freaking out. So we go inside the house and he tells me that half the stuff in the truck still belonged to him but his boss wouldn't let him take it. He then told me that he called the police and they said that he's not allowed to keep it even tho he PAID for all that stuff. So all I'm asking is doesn't he have the right to keep all of his tools and supplies? I mean its not like small screwdrivers and stuff, I'm talking about ladders, a vacuum, propane tanks , copper wires, etc. and lots more!! And it just pisses me off that, that piece of sh^t boss of his just drives away with about over $1000, maybe more!! worth of equipment that my dad PAID FOR and he doesn't even have a say in this, after his 11 years of devotion to that punk @$$ old man. So PLEASE If you can help I'll be VERY THANKFUL!!
